STAPLES-Jack Rengel will be the featured speaker at the Thursday, July 4, Staples Veterans Park celebration, with the program starting at 10 a.m.

Rengel was born and raised in Staples. He graduated in 1964, received a bachelor's degree from St. Cloud State University and was drafted in 1969. He attended Vietnamese language school at Fort Bliss, then was attached to the 101st Airborne as a prisoner of war interrogator with 1 Corps near the DMZ.

Huck Holst will be the emcee. Refreshments and brats will be available.

Commemorative granite pavers will be dedicated for the following veterans: Specialist 4th Class Thomas Larson, U.S. Army, 1972-75; Sgt. Michael Snook, U.S. Army, 44th Signal Corps, 1966-69; Specialist 4th Class Leo F. Olson, U.S. Army, 1964-67; and Yeoman 1st Class Virgil D. Bredemeier, U.S. Navy, 1942-46, World War II.
