DULUTH - Minnesota Congressman Rick Nolan announced on his Facebook page Monday that his youngest daughter, Katherine, has been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, and said he and his family will be meeting with doctors over the next few days regarding her condition.

“I want to share some difficult news with you,” Nolan wrote on his website, which was soon flooded with responses of support and well wishes from constituents.

“The good news is that she is remarkably strong and determined to win this fight, and of course our entire family will support her every step of the way,” the online message continued.

Nolan, D-Crosby, recently won a tough bid for re-election to Minnesota’s 8th Congressional District against Republican challenger Stewart Mills and the Green Party’s Skip Sandman.

“I will be working from Minnesota for a couple days while we meet with her doctors and formulate a plan of action. I will not be present for the official swearing in of the new Congress tomorrow, but have been assured by the Speaker’s Office that I can be sworn in when I return.
