Sen. Carrie Ruud, R-Breezy Point, earned The Nature Conservancy's 2017 Government Relations Award for her efforts to protect Minnesota's prairies, forests, lakes, rivers and wetlands this past year.
"I am humbled to receive this important recognition and would like to offer my sincere appreciation to The Nature Conservancy for their work," Ruud stated in a news release. "I am proud of my accomplishments this past session and look forward to continuing to fight to secure safe and healthy forests and waters for our children and generations to come."
Ruud chief-authored the 2017 Legacy Finance bill, which makes critical investments in clean water and the environment. As the chair of the Senate's Environment and Natural Resources Policy and Legacy Finance Committee, Ruud has taken a balanced approach to the environment working with conservation groups and business alike to preserve Minnesota's long-term environmental health, the release stated.
"Sen. Ruud is a great champion of conservation who understands the needs of her region, and of the state," stated Todd Holman, the program director for Minnesota's Nature Conservancy. "She lives in a water district and understands that protecting land is good, and necessary, for protecting water."
