Scams pop up after last week's storm

The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office has received scam reports of individuals/companies offering inspections to homes for storm damage from last week's storm and offering estimates for repair.

The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office has received scam reports of individuals/companies offering inspections to homes for storm damage from last week's storm and offering estimates for repair.

In a news release, Sheriff Todd Dahl reminds citizens to check with their homeowners insurance or individual insurance policy to see what it will cover for repairs or cleanup of their property.

Citizens should check the credentials of anyone offering to clean up their property. The companies should be insured and bonded. No one should have to pay in advance for repairs or to have trees cut and removed from their property. Most legitimate companies will offer to bill you later for their service.

Dahl also is asking the public to report any suspicious activity in the area of the storm damage along with reporting any suspected fraud dealing with storm clean up.
