NISSWA — A Reichert Bus went off the road Thursday morning, Nov. 11, after dropping students off at Nisswa Elementary School.

The bus driver was the only person on the bus when it went into the ditch along County Highway 18. The driver is believed to have had a medical issue, according to Reichert CEO Mike Moran, though the incident is still under investigation, he said. Reports on the police scanner stated there were minor injuries to the driver, though Moran said Thursday afternoon he had not been able to get any information on the driver’s condition yet.

Collins Brothers Towing pulled the bus out of the ditch and got it back to the Reichert facility. Moran said he hadn’t checked out the damage yet but did not believe it was extensive, as the bus did not seem to be going very fast at the time of the crash.

Reports on the police scanner said the road was open again at about 1:45 p.m.

“It’s just fortunate that no students were on board and nobody else was injured other than possibly our driver,” Moran said.
