PILLAGER - The Science Museum of Minnesota is bringing its interactive "Science Matters" program to Pillager Elementary School on March 17, providing students with hands-on activities and demonstrations designed to enrich their interest in science.
Science museum staff will visit Pillager Elementary School to present the assemblies to students at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. At the 9 a.m. assembly on dinosaurs, students will learn what the world was like when dinosaurs roamed the earth, help a paleontologist discover fossils, and reconstruct a life-size dinosaur skeleton puzzle. At the 1 p.m. engineering assembly, students will work together to solve engineering problems, like designing a high-speed train that makes limited noise while entering tunnels, and determining which types of gloves are best for various situations.
As part of the "Science Matters" program, 92 students from Pillager Elementary will attend an overnight camp-in among the science museum's world-class exhibitions and interactive workshops in April. The camp-in will provide students with an opportunity to explore the magic of science through a unique overnight experience. Now in its 28th season, the camp-in program is one of the longest-standing museum sleepover programs in the nation, reaching more than 75,000 Minnesota students.
The event is made possible through a sponsorship from Flint Hills Resources. More than 4,900 students from 33 Minnesota schools will have an opportunity to witness the program's large-scale, dramatic demonstrations this year.
