LE SUEUR - Hope of finding Moriah Lynn Zwart is dwindling as officials said the search for the missing 20-year-old is shifting to a recovery effort.
Le Sueur County Sheriff Dave Tietz said there is no update on the search that started in the early hours of Friday, when Zwart went missing along the Minnesota River. The sheriff’s office reports Zwart was camping on a sandbar with a friend on the east bank of the river just southwest of the city of Le Sueur.
When the friend noticed Zwart was missing, the friend walked back into town to notify Zwart’s parents. A preliminary search revealed no sign of Zwart, and rescue personnel are now focusing their search on the river itself.
A release from the sheriff’s office said it believes both Zwart and her friend were drinking alcohol that evening, and it is believed alcohol played a role in Zwart’s disappearance.
