The search for a missing Brainerd man ended Saturday morning after officials recovered a body from Nokay Lake, east of Brainerd.

Capt. Scott Goddard of the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office confirmed at about 9:30 a.m., a body was located by searchers using sonar. The Crow Wing County Dive Team was dispatched to recover the body, which was sent to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy. The body is presumed to be that of a 54-year-old Brainerd man.

The boat and water division, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the Minnesota State Patrol were searching for the man following two calls Friday morning. One call reported an empty boat on the lake, and a second requested a welfare check on a man who did not show up for work. Goddard said the missing employee was the man who was the registered owner of the boat.

After searching until sunset Friday, responders resumed the search at daybreak Saturday.

Goddard said foul play is not suspected, and all victims presumed drowned are sent to the medical examiner's office.

"At this time, it appears to be a tragic accident," Goddard said.

The sheriff's office intended to release the man's identity later Saturday afternoon.
