Semi versus passenger car crash sends 1 to hospital

OUTING--A 20-year-old Grand Rapids man was injured when the Mazda Protege he was driving slid into a semitrailer at 11:45 a.m. Monday on Highway 6 and Cass County Road 58 in Crooked Lake Township in Outing.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported a Freightliner semitrailer, driven by William Wade Vedbraaten, 65, Gully, was north on Highway 6 and a Mazda Protege, driven by Clayton James Baker, was south, when the Mazda veered and slid into the semitrailer. The state patrol reported the roads were full of snow and ice.

Baker was taken to Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby for life-threatening injuries. Vedbraaten was not injured.

The Cass County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene.
