A semitrailer driver who smelled smoke and then saw flames in the cab after pulling into Brainerd Wednesday escaped the fire with no injuries, Brainerd Fire Chief Kevin Stunek said.
Brainerd firefighters were called at 10 a.m. to a fully engulfed semitrailer on Oak Street near 19th Street. Eight firefighters responded to the scene and used about 100 gallons of water and foam to extinguish the fire.
Stunek said the semitrailer cab was destroyed but the trailer was fine. The fire caused about $12,000 in damages, he said.
The driver, George Lindquist, was driving an Anderson Recycling semitrailer out of Sandstone.
The Minnesota State Patrol and Brainerd Police Department assisted on the scene.
