'Shelterbelts' author to speak at Brainerd library

Award-winning author Candace Simar will speak about her latest novel "Shelterbelts" and sign copies of her books Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Brainerd Public Library. The event is free and open to the public.

Award-winning author Candace Simar will speak about her latest novel "Shelterbelts" and sign copies of her books Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Brainerd Public Library. The event is free and open to the public.

"Shelterbelts" chronicles the life of a community struggling to return to normal after war. This is a story true to the history of those difficult times while rich in the complications of the human spirit. Simar is the author of the award-winning "Abercrombie Trail" series, which includes "Abercrombie Trail," "Pomme de Terre" and "Birdie." She is also the author of "Blooming Prairie" and co-author of "Farm Girls." "Birdie" received the 2012 Spur Award and "Blooming Prairie" was a 2013 Spur finalist.
