The traffic signal at Highway 210 and Cypress Drive became operational as of noon, Tuesday, Jan. 8.

The concrete barricades in the Highway 210 median and on Cypress Drive north of Highway 210 were also removed Tuesday. The traffic light is partially operational at this time until the Cypress Drive project is completed.

The intersection will not be fully operational until the southern leg is constructed later this year and a new railroad crossing is installed. The westbound Highway 210 left turn lane at Cypress Drive, the northbound Cypress Drive through lanes south of Highway 210, and the eastbound Highway 210 right turn lane at Cypress Drive are closed and will remain closed during this time as well.

Next spring when the concrete flat work (pedestrian curb ramps) can be completed, there will be no pedestrian crossings allowed at the Highway 210/Cypress Drive intersection, Scott Hedlund, senior project manager with Short Elliott Hendrickson reported.

Hedlund noted the city of Baxter does not intend to plow any of the trails south of mid-block between Excelsior Road and Highway 210 this winter, so they will remain closed until spring. The trail on the south side of Highway 210 between Cypress Drive and the Paul Bunyan State Trail will only be open this winter for snowmobile trail use.

The project is officially now on winter suspension until construction resumes in the spring.
