ST. PAUL - He spent $125 using a stolen credit card. But it came at a tragic cost.

A young mother lost her life when she interrupted a burglary and a 5-year-old girl is without her mom.

According to criminal charges filed Thursday in Ramsey County District Court, Sarah Anne Wierstad, 24, was shot and killed just paces from the front door of her St. Paul home. Her keys were on the living room floor. Her purse and phone were missing. Her home appeared to have been ransacked. A man was seen standing on the corner, gunning her down: “Pop pop pop.”

Police arrested Wierstad’s alleged killer after they found his fingerprints near a window at her house and learned he’d used her credit card to buy gas less than 30 minutes after she was killed.

Alvin Rudolph Bell, 24, current address unknown, has been charged with second-degree murder.
