Slow, no-wake speeds advised in Morrison County

With Morrison County receiving significant rainfall in the past several days, Morrison County Sheriff Michel Wetzel is again reminding area boaters to operate their watercraft at slow no-wake speeds whenever possible on area lakes.

With Morrison County receiving significant rainfall in the past several days, Morrison County Sheriff Michel Wetzel is again reminding area boaters to operate their watercraft at slow no-wake speeds whenever possible on area lakes.

According to Wetzel, high water levels have plagued the lakes in northwestern Morrison County throughout the summer. Now with the recent rainfalls the high water levels have extended to Pierz Fish Lake and the lakes in northeastern Morrison County.

Boaters should be aware that causing excessive wakes can create significant erosion to shorelines as well as actual damage to docks and other structures along the shorelines. The sheriff's water patrol, along with local conservation officers have been asking boaters throughout the summer to operate at no-wake speeds anytime they are within 300 feet of a shoreline.

"We are asking boaters to continue using extra caution in adhering to this advisory until lake levels return to normal, which may not occur until next spring." stated Wetzel in a news release.
