FIFTY LAKES — A 61-year-old man died when the snowmobile he was operating struck a group of trees Saturday, Feb. 22, on a state trail in Fifty Lakes.
The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash at 8:51 p.m. Upon arrival, deputies and first responders found the man, David A. Walter of Fridley, who was pronounced dead at the scene. It was learned Walter struck a group of trees when he lost control of his snowmobile about a half-mile off Fox Glenn Drive. Walter’s wife was riding on a separate snowmobile and called 911.
Walter’s body was transported to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Fifty Lakes and Emily fire departments, Crosslake Police Department, North Memorial Ambulance and North Memorial Health Air Care.
