CROSSLAKE — Two snowmobilers broke through the ice on Cross Lake near the Cross Lake Recreation Area and the Pine River Dam but neither required rescuing.
Trevor Fern and Jacob Giesler, 21-year-olds from Plymouth, were able to get out of the water on their own at about 8:57 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, and walk to a nearby residence.
Neither of the snowmobilers was impaired but were unfamiliar with the area, according to the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office.

The Crosslake Police Department and North Memorial Ambulance Service assisted deputies on the scene.
Crow Wing County Sheriff Scott Goddard stated no ice is completely safe so those venturing out should be familiar with the area in which they will be outdoor recreating.
