CUSHING — A Staples man was injured after he apparently fell asleep while driving Monday, March 30, in Cushing Township.
The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office reported receiving word at 6:35 a.m. Monday of a one-vehicle crash on Highway 10 near Azure Road about 3 miles northwest of Cushing.
According to the sheriff’s office, 56-year-old Ray Thompson was traveling west on Highway 10 when he fell asleep behind the wheel, and his vehicle left the road. The vehicle went into a shallow pond and was submerged in about 3 feet of water. Thompson was transported to Lakewood Hospital by Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service with unknown injuries.
Scandia Valley Fire Department, Scandia Valley First Response Team and Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service assisted the sheriff’s office at the scene.
