Staples woman suffers injuries in Cass County crash

Heather Lee Bartel, 27, of Staples was the passanger in a Ford F250 as it made a turn off Highway 64 that collided with a 2006 Honda Odyssey trying to pass.

A Staples woman was treated for non-life-threatening injuries she suffered in a crash the afternoon of Saturday, June 5, on Highway 64 in Poplar Township, Cass County.

Heather Lee Bartel, 27, of Staples was the passenger in a 1994 Ford F250 operated by Darick Victor Bartel, 27, of Staples as it traveled south on Highway 64. The Ford was towing a trailer at the time of the incident. As the Ford turned to enter a property off the highway, a 2006 Honda Odyssey operated by Daniel James Gartrell, 77, of Bemidji, was traveling south and tried to pass the F250. The Odyssey struck the F250 and both vehicles came to rest in a ditch.

Heather Bartel was transported to Lakewood Health System-Staples for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Darick Bartel and Gartrell did not suffer injuries in the incident. All three were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash and conditions are described as dry.

Assisting the Minnesota State Patrol at the scene was the Cass County Sheriff’s Office and Lakewood Health System Ambulance.
