State Patrol seeks public's help in hit-and-run crash that killed Lake Park 10-year-old

ST. PAUL -- The State Patrol is asking for the public's help as it continues to investigate a hit-and-run crash that killed 10-year-old Caylin Donovan on Friday, June 10.
The Lake Park girl was struck and killed just before 8 p.m. while walking on Highway 18 near Mille Lacs Lake.
Col. Matt Langer, chief of the State Patrol, held a news conference Tuesday, June 14, to again ask for help in the investigation.
"We ask for you to think about Caylin Donovan and her family and help them, and us, try to solve what occurred," he said.
Investigators are asking anyone who was in the area between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Friday to call Lt. Adam Fulton at (218) 316-3025 with any information about the incident or if they saw Donovan before the crash, according to a news release.
"The most insignificant tidbit could prove to be absolutely vital to us solving this case," Langer said at the news conference.
He said it's possible, though rare, the person responsible in the crash may not have known they hit Donovan or they could have made "really poor decisions" behind the wheel and left the scene.
"We're asking for you to come forward and help this family," Langer said.
Donovan was staying with family at a home near the lake and was at the end of the home's driveway, possibly trying to get better reception for a cellphone, her mother, Ginnie Donovan, said in an interview with The Forum on Sunday, June 12.
Langer said the damage on the striking vehicle may be minimal, given Donovan's size.
He said they don't know of anyone who witnessed the crash, so it's important anyone who saw the child before or after the crash should come forward with any information.
"We want to know what happened to Caylin and we want to solve this case for her family," he said.
