State seeks candidates for various committee vacancies

The Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State released a notice of vacancies for various state boards, councils and committees that are accepting applications.

Minnesotans are encouraged to apply and serve in demonstration of public service, a news release stated.

Applications may be submitted online, and must be submitted within 21 days of the publish date listed on the Open Positions page at, to be assured of full consideration by the appointing authority. Appointing authorities may choose to review applications received by the secretary of state after the 21-day application period.

The newest vacancies are listed below, or go online to view the full list of 807 vacancies.

Current vacancies

  • Board of Cosmetology: one seat, public member.

  • External Program Review Committee: one seat, positive support strategies.

  • Medicaid Services Advisory Committee: one seat, consumer or nonprofit or human services organizations familiar with health care needs of Medicaid population; one seat, Medicaid beneficiary or caregiver of beneficiary; two seats, physicians or providers familiar with health care needs of Medicaid population.

  • Minnesota Comprehensive Health Association Board Of Directors: one seat, public member.

  • Opioid Epidemic Response Advisory Council: one seat, alternative pain management therapies representative; one seat, licensed opioid treatment program, sober living program or substance use disorder program representative; one seat, local department of health representative (ex officio non-voting member); one seat, mental health advocate representative; one seat, Minnesota Ambulance Association representative (emergency medical technician, advanced EMT, or paramedic); one seat, Minnesota courts representative (judge or law enforcement officer); one seat, Minnesota Hospital Association representative; two seats, Minnesota Indian tribes representatives (Dakota and Ojibwe); one seat, nonprofit organization conducting initiatives to address opioid epidemic; one seat, public member in opioid addiction recovery; and one seat, public member with chronic pain, intractable pain, or a rare disease or condition.

How to apply

Visit the Open Positions page. Scroll down to find the correct agency/board/council. Choose the correct seat type, and click button that says apply. The system will walk through creating an application profile. The second page of the application will now allow the attachment of a letter of interest and a resume or biography.


Applicants are encouraged to use the online application as the appointing authority will have access to information as soon as it is submitted, the release stated. Applications submitted via downloadable application may experience some delay in reaching the appointing authority.

Paper applications may be submitted by email to or by mail or in person to Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State, 180 State Office Building, 100 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, St Paul, MN 55155-1299.

In accordance with the Minnesota Open Appointments Law, the Secretary of State acts as an administrator in publishing vacancies, receiving applications and recording appointments. Applications will be reviewed and appointments made by the appointing authorities. Questions about specific vacancies and appointments should be directed to the appointing authority. Applications are kept on file for a one-year period.
