Storm ignites fire calls in lakes area

The Brainerd Fire Department responded to four calls Saturday, June 30, caused by thunderstorms through the Brainerd lakes area.

The calls began at 1:13 a.m. with a lightning strike on the 5400 block of Pine Beach Road. Fire crews assisted the homeowner to confirm no fire was inside the house. Lightning hit a tree next to the house, blowing out a window. No one was injured.

At 1:42 a.m., there was a fire alarm at The Bodyworks Super Collision Center, 14742 Dellwood Drive N., Baxter. Firefighters investigated and determined the alarm was related to the storm in the area.

Shortly after at 1:47 a.m., lightning struck a house on the 11000 block of Ash Avenue. Fire was reported on the side of the house and fire crews arrived and quickly extinguished the fire. Damage was limited to the outside of the home and the attic. Crews were on scene for almost two hours checking for additional fire and removing insulation from the attic space. No one was injured.

At 1:07 p.m., a small fire in the ditch was reported on Paris Road and Jasperwood Drive in Baxter from a powerline. The fire was extinguished.

Firefighters responded to one call Sunday at 7:49 p.m. at Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge, 2424 Business Highway 371, Brainerd, and it was a fire alarm. Firefighters determined it to be a false alarm.
