Author Joel Karsten of "Straw Bale Gardens" will make appearances in March at several Kitchigami Regional Libraries in the Brainerd lakes area, including a stop at 5:30 p.m. March 5 at the Brainerd Public Library.
Those attending will learn how they can create their own straw bale garden. Karsten will explain the process and benefits of straw bale gardening, followed by an opportunity to ask him questions and purchase "Straw Bale Gardens."
Karsten is a graduate from the University of Minnesota and received a bachelor of science degree in horticulture science. He worked in the green industry after graduation, running his own landscape design and installation company in the Minneapolis/St.Paul metro area. He is an avid vegetable gardener, trying new varieties of anything he can fit into his 20-bale garden on his limited residential lot in Roseville.
Other appearances will be: 11 a.m. March 2 at Wadena City Library; 4:30 p.m. March 3, Pequot Lakes Community Library; 11 a.m. March 3, Margaret Welch Memorial Library in Longville; 3 p.m. March 3, Walker Public Library; 6:30 p.m. March 3, Cass Lake Community Library; 5:30 p.m. March 4, Pine River Public Library; and 1 p.m. March 5, Crosslake Area Library.
