PEQUOT LAKES - The suspicious incident Tuesday on Rae Avenue in Pequot Lakes, which some parents thought was an attempted child abduction appears to have been a prank.
The Pequot Lakes Police Department reported Thursday that the incident appears to have been a result of high school students playing a "ding dong ditch" prank that was unrelated to the abandoned building or child that was in the same area. "Ding dong ditch" is a prank where a person knocks or rings a doorbell and runs away before the door can be answered.
The Pequot Lakes Police Department is confident that this incident was not an attempted child abduction and that the child and "pranksters" just happened to be in the same general area.
Police are still investigating the incident and following up on additional leads.
