SUV and deer collide, injuring passenger

A Pine River man was injured when the SUV in which he was a passenger struck a deer at 10:14 p.m. Monday, July 16, on Highway 371 at Kappel Road in Fort Ripley Township.

A Pine River man was injured when the SUV in which he was a passenger struck a deer at 10:14 p.m. Monday, July 16, on Highway 371 at Kappel Road in Fort Ripley Township.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported Justin J. Bauer, 29, New Ulm, was driving a Ford Explorer south on Highway 371 when the SUV hit a deer in the road.

Bauer and passenger Gerald J. Losinski, 62, New Ulm, both wearing seat belts, were not injured. Another passenger, Joseph T. Rewitzer, 27, Pine River, was transported to Essentia Health-St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd for non-life-threatening injuries. Rewitzer was not wearing his seat belt, the state patrol reported.
