THIEF RIVER FALLS - A Thief River Falls woman has been cited after the SUV she was driving slid through an intersection and collided with a school bus Thursday, leaving six students with minor injuries.

Police Chief Dick Wittenberg said the six students went to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

"It was just slight bumps and bruises," he said Friday.

Meg Adaire Kolden received a citation for failing to drive with due care. At the time of the accident, roads around the region were icy following significant snowfall.

A Thief River Falls Police Department accident report said Kolden was westbound on 11th Street West around 3:30 p.m. Thursday and arrived at an uncontrolled intersection the same time as the school bus.

The Thief River Falls School District school bus, which was carrying 27 middle and high school students, was traveling south on Duluth Avenue North and had the right of way.

Kolden was unable to stop in time and slid through the intersection and struck the side of the bus. The crash impact sent the bus, driven by Robert Flick, into a nearby tree.

Students not taken to the hospital were picked up by their parents or another bus and dropped off at their homes.
