The Crow Wing Soil and Water District Board awarded four community groups grant funding for clean water projects in the amount of $70,000.
"We are excited for this opportunity to bring locally paid sales tax dollars back in to Crow Wing County. This will allow local citizens and community organizations to access the Clean Water Fund and determine how Legacy dollars are spent," stated Melissa Barrick, SWCD district manager, in a news release.
Funding was provided by the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources through the Community Partners Grant, which is derived from the Clean Water Fund funded through the Legacy Amendment.
The SWCD hosted a competitive grant process. We received four applications, submitted for a total of $88,847 in grant funding requests. The applications were reviewed and ranked by an interagency team that included Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, University of Minnesota Extension, The Nature Conservancy, Mississippi Headwaters Board and Crow Wing SWCD.
Grantees awarded are the following:

• Agate Lake Property Owners Association, watershed runoff mitigation: $25,000.
• Sibley Lake Association, shoreline restoration: $22,000.
• Whitefish Area Property Owners Association, annual shoreline restoration contest: $13,000.
• Wilderness Park Owners Association, rain garden, $10,000.
Local organizations provide 25 percent matching cash or in-kind value for the projects.
