"Through the tree sale, the SWCD sold over 38,000 trees and 4,000 plant plugs that will filter polluted runoff, stop erosion and create wildlife habitat. These plants will vegetate the equivalent of 60 acres with native vegetation," stated Melissa Barrick, district manager, in a news release.

The SWCD board of supervisors will offer free coffee and refreshments for customers. Customers can also learn from area plant experts. Landowners can also arrange for SWCD staff to plant plants and trees for $60 per hour. Tree planting spades are available for a $40 deposit with limited availability.

Customers should bring a copy of the customer survey/email or postcard, along with cash, check or credit card to complete their orders. All orders must be paid in full before customers can pick up their trees or plants.

Orders not picked up by noon on May 7 will be charged $25. Early pickup is not available. All plants are native stock sourced from local nurseries with verifiable seed source. The SWCD does not guarantee survival of plants and trees. All orders are subject to the same condition that they are received from suppliers.

The deadline for pre-ordering was Feb. 29. Contact the SWCD now or in the fall to sign-up to receive a 2017 pre-order Form and information about future tree and plant sales.

In its release, the SWCD thanked the Northland Arboretum, Central Lakes College Natural Resources Club, Area Education Center students, Crow Wing County Master Gardeners, Crow Wing Master Naturalists and other volunteers who support the tree and plant sale program.
