MOORHEAD – Police used a Taser on a Moorhead man early Friday after he refused to cooperate with officers trying to arrest him on suspicion of attempted arson, authorities said.

Moorhead police Lt. Tory Jacobson said officers were dispatched at about 2 a.m. on a report that a man had threatened to burn down the caller’s home. Dispatchers told police the man was there, and the caller could smell gasoline, Jacobson said.

Near the mobile home, officers allege they found Xavier Robles, 31, with a knife and lighter. They also found an open red plastic gas container and could smell gasoline, Jacobson said.

Robles would not cooperate with officers and a Taser was used on him multiple times, Jacobson said.

He also continued to fight with officers, two of whom received minor injuries, police said.

Robles was being held in the Clay County Jail pending formal charges of attempted first-degree arson, terroristic threats and violation of a protection order, all felonies.

He also faces potential charges of gross misdemeanor obstruction of the legal process, fourth-degree assault and disorderly conduct, Jacobson said.
