Brainerd High School students have been busy this summer rehearsing for their production of "The Rehearsal" scheduled for performances July 29-31 in the Little Theatre.
"The Rehearsal" is a parody that takes a behind the scenes look at a high school production of "Guys and Dolls." With lots of quick-witted humor, the show's organizers believe it is sure to keep audiences laughing. Based on the script by Don Zolidis, cast members bring to life a satirical look at one of Broadway's longest running plays. Although it is not considered a musical, some singing and dancing are included in the script.
The play stars sophomore Romeo Hall as Jule, junior Lizzi Ortmeier as Morgan, and recent BHS graduate Chloe Severson as Angela along with a host of other students. English teacher Karla Johnson is directing the summer theatre program which hasn't held a production for a number of years. Johnson is excited to bring back a summer play and is hopeful that they have a great turnout.
The cast features members from several grades but they are a "tightly knit group," said Hall. "No other activity I've been involved in has been as had people as friendly and accepting as this one." He said he has really enjoyed exploring the boisterous and bossy character Jule.
Ortmeier said the production has, "given her a feel for real life situations, knowing what other people need and providing it." She has been involved with seven plays throughout high school. Her favorite scene from "The Rehearsal" is the comical guys dance scene.

Severson is majoring in theatre arts this fall at Augsburg College. She liked this production because it allowed her to see people she wouldn't have seen over the summer. Her favorite scene is the one where she sings "Adelaide's Lament," a famous show tune from "Guys and Dolls."
Shows on July 29-30 start at 7:30 p.m. and July 31 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at the door in the Brainerd High School Little Theatre for $3 and all ages are welcome. Running time is approximately one hour.
