The Brainerd Baxter Youth Center, The Shop, was recently awarded numerous grants.
The Otto Bremer Foundation provided $40,000 to support providing a safe space and basic need services to at-risk and homeless youths in the community. The Best Buy Children's Foundation grant of $6,000 supports the PCs for People Youth Project. The project is one of four rural affiliates of the parent organization in St. Paul and the first to actively recruit and train at-risk youths for possible information technology careers.
Crow Wing Power Community Trust donated $3,000 on behalf of its members' Operation Round-Up distributions for the Bicycle Recycle project. The project is a pathway allowing youths the means to develop skills and competency as they are mentored in aspects of bicycle repair and are able to recycle bikes back into the community for transportation and recreation.
The Shop is located at the former site of Citadel Games on Washington Street in north Brainerd.
