An updated version of a local history book is now available.
For anyone wanting to learn about the history of the lake country, the story really starts at the confluence of the Gull, Crow Wing and the Mississippi rivers. Now the Crow Wing State Park, this area was the hub of most of northern Minnesota’s Native Americans, along with white explorers and settlers. The rivers and surrounding lakes provided transportation, food and connection with other communities, a news release stated.
“The Village of Old Crow Wing” book shares information about this time and is now available at the Crow Wing County Historical Society, downtown Brainerd’s CatTales bookstore and Riverplace Press.
“The Village of Old Crow Wing” book includes the originally gathered history and includes 14 more articles, stories and journals. A number of the entries in the book were originally written for the Brainerd Dispatch.
