Kevin Thesing of Brainerd and seven other people from across the state were honored for their commitment to agriculture and the FFA March 3 at the Minnesota FFA Alumni Conference.

The conference in Rosemount provided an opportunity for alumni members to network and strengthen their leadership skills to utilize in their local communities. At this conference, the eight people selected for the Minnesota FFA Hall of Fame were introduced to the Minnesota FFA Alumni Association, Thesing being one of them.

The Hall of Fame recognizes people who have been influential and supportive of Minnesota FFA and who have demonstrated a high level of service and longstanding commitment to agriculture, agribusiness, and/or education in agriculture. The Hall of Fame was established as part of the organization's 75th anniversary celebration and has inducted only 169 people in its 12 years. A committee consisting of industry professionals, agriculture educators, Minnesota FFA state staff, and agriculture students selected the people, based on the criteria above, to be inducted to the Hall of Fame in April.

"Youth in the FFA are only successful because of supportive adults that mentor, guide, and encourage them. The Hall of Fame is an excellent opportunity to honor these men and women who have gone above and beyond to support Minnesota FFA and the agriculture industry," said Katie Benson, president of the Minnesota FFA Association, in a news release.

Thesing has been a major contributor to agricultural education and the FFA organization, as he was a founding member of the Brainerd FFA Alumni and now serves as the Brainerd FFA Alumni president. Thesing helped create an annual community event to celebrate agriculture education, as well as a memorial softball game in honor of his late son who was a major supporter of the Brainerd FFA. The funds from the memorial game are now given as scholarships to FFA members.

Thesing's passion for agriculture is evident in all of his work. He has helped promote Kids Kountry, an interactive Ag Literacy opportunity, at the Crow Wing County Fair. In addition, Thesing is constantly supporting, either personally or through his printing business, many agricultural-related organizations like the American Dairy Association, Farm Bureau, the Crow Wing County Fair and local food shelves.

"For me, FFA has always been about opportunity. It is my time to be able to share my treasure and talent to help create opportunities in ag education and FFA for today's youth," Thesing stated in the release. Thesing has a passion for giving back to the community, especially the youths, the release stated, and he does whatever it takes to provide for the students of the Brainerd Agriculture Department and the FFA.

Other Hall of Fame inductees are Brad Harguth, Peter Neigebauer, Ben Broberg, Donald Hermanson, Kevin Schulz, Paul Hansen and Brian Buhr. They will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at the Minnesota FFA State Convention during the third general session on April 23.
