Many athletes participate in more than one sport, but few truly excel in more than one. An exception is the Warriors' Chris Studer.

He participated in the Lion's All-Star Baseball Championship on June 20-21, and the Minn. All-Star Football game the following weekend.

30 years ago (1987)

What was Minneapolis Police Chief Tony Bouza doing at Brainerd's Arts in the Park festival? "Peddling cheap junk jewelry to gullible Midwesterners," he laughed. Actually, the distinctive jewelry was made by his wife Erica. "She couldn't be here, she's in jail," he said. Actually, she was.

40 years ago (1977)

Mother Nature apparently didn't care that today is Larry Graton's 40th birthday. On Monday, high winds put the kiss of death on his Shore Acres Resort on Mille Lacs, lifting the entire roof off the main lodge and destroying it beyond repair. Miraculously, 30 people in the lodge were unharmed.

60 years ago (1957)

The first thing you notice when you approach the Manganese Chemical Corp. plant in Riverton is the smell of ammonia in the air. This is the only plant in Minnesota producing chemical manganese and has been in operation three years. The plant employs 80 men.

80 years ago (1937)

All channels between lakes in the Gull Lake chain - from Wilson Bay to Upper Cullen - have been cleaned of weeds and marked for navigation by the Nisswa Commercial Club. Bob Henderson cut the weeds, while red-and-white buoys clearly mark the deepest channels.

100 years ago (1917)

Roy Britton, having a farm two-and-a-half miles from the city, has evolved a two-wheeled cart using bicycle wheels which he attaches to his motorcycle. He can thus transport up to 500 pounds of garden produce to Brainerd stores.
