Three children die in Minneapolis house fire

MINNEAPOLIS - Three children, all under the age of seven, are dead after a fire started in their family home late Saturday night.

A press release from the Minneapolis Fire Department stated that the call came in at 11:57 p.m. Saturday night. Upon their arrival, firefighters found the house located at 2755 Penn Ave. N. engulfed in flames. Crews immediately searched the home for possible victims.

Two children were found deceased on the first floor and the third victim was initially found alive on the second floor. The victim from the was transported by North Memorial ambulance to a local hospital and later died there.

After the fire had been extinguished, crews were able to determine that the fire possibly originated from the kitchen stove, which may have been used as a heat source.

According to the press release, the children’s mother and fire crews were able to come out of the fire unscathed. The identities of the victims are not being released at this time.

The fire remains under investigation.
