ST. PAUL - Minnesota’s Commission on Judicial Selection announced Thursday three candidates to fill a vacancy in the Ninth Judicial District in northern Minnesota.
The names will be forwarded to Gov. Mark Dayton, who will interview the finalists and make a final selection.

Counties in the district include Aitkin, Beltrami, Cass, Clearwater, Crow Wing, Hubbard, Itasca, Kittson, Koochiching, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen, Marshall, Norman, Pennington, Polk, Red Lake, and Roseau.

The finalists are Lake of the Woods County Attorney James Austad, Assistant Itasca County Attorney Heidi Chandler and staff attorney at Legal Aid Service of Northeast Minnesota Sarah McBroom.

The new judge will fill a vacancy upon the retirement of Judge Jon Maturi and will have chambers in Grand Rapids in Itasca County.
