MINNEAPOLIS - Minneapolis police continue to investigate a crash that killed two people and sent three more to the hospital early Saturday morning.

According to John Elder, public information officer for the Minneapolis Police Department, five people were in a vehicle headed north on University Avenue in northeast Minneapolis when the driver, 30-year old Paul S. Buchanan, of Minneapolis, failed to follow a curve in the road around 2:30 a.m. The vehicle went through a chain link fence and hit a tree, killing Shannasey M. O’Rourke, 26, of Minneapolis, who was in the front passenger seat.

Buchanan died at the hospital about an hour after the crash, according to the Hennepin County medical examiner’s office. Elder said the other three passengers, all adults, had been taken to Hennepin County Medical Center but their statuses were unavailable as of Monday afternoon.
