Two men escape injury when aircraft crashes

DEERWOOD - Two men were pulled from Agate Lake near Deerwood Friday by a citizen who witnessed an ultralight aircraft crashing into the lake, Crow Wing County Sheriff Todd Dahl reported.

DEERWOOD - Two men were pulled from Agate Lake near Deerwood Friday by a citizen who witnessed an ultralight aircraft crashing into the lake, Crow Wing County Sheriff Todd Dahl reported.

The pilot, Richard Northburg, of Deerwood, and passenger, Justin Odle, of Aitkin, were not injured. Northburg reported to deputies that they were flying over Agate Lake when the engine on the aircraft stalled causing them to land in the lake.

Inspectors from the Federal Aviation Administration were contacted and are investigating the crash reported at 7:30 p.m.

The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Deerwood Police Department.
