TOWER - Authorities on Monday identified two people killed in separate crashes on highways in St. Louis County on Sunday.

In the first crash, on Minnesota Highway 169 south of Tower at about 12:30 p.m., Elaine Tuominen, 82, of Tower died after the Buick LeSabre in which she was a passenger pulled out from a parking lot and into the path of a southbound Chevrolet Astro, the Minnesota State Patrol reported.

The LeSabre was hit broadside and Tuominen died at the scene. Her husband, Carl Tuominen, 82, who was driving the car, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Essentia Health-Virginia, the Patrol said.

The driver of the Astro, Carol Mitchell, 82, of Tower, also suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the Virginia hospital.

In the second crash, on U.S. Highway 53 about four miles north of Cotton at about 3 p.m., Bruce Etienne, 51, of Ogilvie, Minn., died after being ejected from a Chevrolet pickup that rolled. The Patrol reported that the driver of the southbound truck, Etienne's wife Rebecca Etienne, 45, overcorrected after the vehicle started to veer toward a ditch, and the truck rolled.
