Baxter fourth-graders Payton Miller (left) and Brianna Finnegan laugh Tuesday while learning to tie fishing knots. Brian McAllister, physical education teacher at Baxter, holds an ice fishing day every year at the school. In the morning the kids go through a seminar at the gym and learn different aspects of ice fishing and get familiar with equipment, rules and regulations. Most years, in the afternoon, the kids go out on White Sand Lake to ice fish. McAllister canceled that part this year because of the deteriorating ice conditions. Steve Kohls/Brainerd Dispatch
