MINNEAPOLIS - University of Minnesota email addresses ranked in the top 10 for colleges with users of the extramarital affair site Ashley Madison, the online education news source Inside Higher Ed found.
The adultery site was hacked earlier this week.
Inside Higher Ed’s IT team found more unique email addresses ending in .edu than .gov or .mil - and 485 of those accounts were made with email addresses from the University of Minnesota.
It is unclear how many of the email addresses belong to U employees.
According to the Associated Press, Ashley Madison claims to have had about 39 million members, but security experts who examined the internal records put the number of email addresses at 36 million.
