CROSBY-Jon Wefald, who has a passion for the Minnesota state bird-the common loon-will present facts about the bird in a presentation, sponsored by Lakes Area Unlimited Learning.
Wefald will speak 1:30-3:30 p.m. June 11 at Heartwood Senior Living, 500 Heartwood Drive, Crosby. A $5 fee is charged for non-members.
"What is it that makes Minnesota's state bird so mysterious, majestic, mournful and maniacal," organizers stated in a news release. "The bird's origins come from the deep recesses of past and may face extinction in the future."
Wefald has been a Minnesota commissioner of agriculture, chancellor for Minnesota State University System and president of Kansas State University.
He is a summer resident of Bay Lake, where he continues to keep a close watch on loon families.
