VINELAND-A number of snowshoeing events are planned for the next few weekends at Mille Lacs Kathio State Park.

• 1-2:30 p.m, Saturday, Feb. 23-Family Snowshoe Hike: Wildlife Survivor-Winter Edition. Learn about the techniques animals use to deal with cold winters. A brief talk and snowshoe lesson will be followed by a short snowshoe hike to search for signs of these winter survival strategies. The park provides snowshoes that fit kids age 4 and older to large adults. For younger children, participants can bring a sled and pull them along. Registration is required and limited. To register, call 320-532-3269 and leave a name, phone number and number of people attending. Meet at the Interpretive Center.

• 1-3 p.m., Saturday, March 2-Snowshoeing into the Past. After an indoor look at some ancient artifacts, archaeologists will lead a snowshoe trek to locations where they discovered evidence of a village from the 1600s and a "campsite" dating to over 3,000 years ago. Snowshoes and basic snowshoeing instructions are provided. Registration is required and limited. To register, call 320-532-3269 and leave a name, phone number and number of people attending. Meet at the Interpretive Center.

• 1-2:30 p.m., Saturday, March 9-Mille Lacs Kathio: Through the Seasons. The event will begin with a slide show illustrating the wonderful seasons and experiences enjoyed at Kathio. Then if conditions permit, the group will head outside for a how-to-lesson and a half-mile snowshoe walk. Snowshoes are provided. People are welcome to attend either or both parts of the program. Meet at the Interpretive Center. The slide show is 1-1:45 p.m., and the snowshoe lesson and walk is 1:45-2:30 p.m.
