The Crow Wing County Dive Team prepared to search the Mississippi River in Brainerd Thursday, July 5, after several items including a car key were found on a park bench in Rotary Park.

The Brainerd Police Department issued a news release Thursday afternoon, seeking information from the public to locate the owner of the property. The sheriff's office reported it was preparing to conduct a search in the river waters, but was canceled about 3:30 p.m. Chief Corky McQuiston reported the property owner was found, but not before raising concerns the property owner could be in the river.

"We are very relieved that the owner was identified and found to be safe and sound," McQuiston wrote in an email.

In an earlier news release, the Brainerd Police Department reported a sweatshirt, towel, moccasins, eyeglasses, cigarettes and a Pontiac car key were located on the bench along a trail near Rotary Park. The passerby found the items shortly after 8:30 a.m. Thursday.

The items appeared to be purposely left there, according to police. Police believed the items were left there sometime in the 24-hour period prior to being found.
