UPDATE: Standoff near St. Mathias Road ends peacefully

A large number of law enforcement and emergency personnel on Friday afternoon converged on a residence near St. Mathias Road and Business Highway 371 during an apparent standoff with an individual at the home.

A large number of law enforcement and emergency personnel on Friday afternoon converged on a residence near St. Mathias Road and Business Highway 371 during an apparent standoff with an individual at the home.

The standoff ended peacefully after 4 p.m. Friday when the suspect surrendered himself into the custody of law enforcement.

Capt. Scott Goddard with the sheriff's office said authorities were called to respond to an incident about 12:15 p.m. for an individual who they believe may want to harm themselves. The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office Tactical Team was called to negotiate with the person and the area involved has been contained by law enforcement.

Goddard said the incident is isolated and there was no threat to the public. 

During the standoff the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office asked the public to stay away from the area of St. Mathias Road, south of Brainerd.
