Several seats are available on various city commissions in Brainerd.
Vacant seats include:
Cable TV advisory committee — one term expiring 2021, two terms expiring 2022.
Charter commission — one term expiring 2022.
Housing and Redevelopment Authority — one term expiring 2022.
Rental dwelling license board of appeals — three terms expiring 2022.
Transportation advisory committee — one term expiring 2022.
Economic Development Authority — one term expiring 2027, one term expiring 2026.
Water tower committee — two seats.

In other business Monday, Oct. 18, the city council:
Accepted third-quarter donations: $10,000 from Brainerd Lions Club for an all-inclusive playground at Buffalo Hills Park; $325 from the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1647 for field banners at Memorial Park; $500 from the Brainerd Fire Relief Association for a fire hose washer; and $1,117 from Culver’s to the fire department capital fund.
Accepted several donations to the Memorial Park splash pad: $250 from Superior Diving Repair Inc.; $250 from Ethan and Wilhelmina Horn; $250 from Katie Kostohryz; $500 from Linda Everson; $1,000 from Sarah Reiner; $250 from Joe Eitenmiller; $250 from Lisa Kemper; $250 from United Welding of Brainerd Inc.; $500 from Clarissa Gilbert; $750 from Emily Noble Rolfson; $500 from Gerdes & Son Property Maintenance; $500 from St. Mathias Bar & Grill; $500 from Baxter Anytime Fitness; $250 from Kristen Pratt; $250 from John Winch; $500 from Triangle Ice Cream LLC; and $500 from Weizenegger Engel Insurance.
Authorized the hiring of Bryce Johnson as a police officer starting at step 1 of the city’s wage grid, earning $28.26 per hour.
Approved 2022-24 union contracts with the United Steel Workers Local 9230 Unit 09 (hydro) Union. The contract includes a 2.5% cost of living adjustment for 2022, 2023 and 2024.
Approved the final pay estimate for the 2020 northeast Brainerd resurfacing project at a cost of $84,474.80. The total project cost was $1,157,089.82, which is $415.24 over the contract amount.
Adopted assessments for 2021 nuisance abatement and the downtown special services district. The council pulled six contested assessments off the approved roll and will discuss them again at the next meeting, after property owners work with city staff.
Adopted assessments for the Northwest Third and Jackson Street reconstruction project.
Adopted assessments for the Madison Street and southeast Brainerd construction project. The council pulled two contested assessments off the approved roll and will discuss them again at the next meeting.
