Van collides with backhoe, injuring 2

The Minnesota State Patrol was called at 8:44 a.m. to a report of a Chrysler Town and Country van that entered a work zone on Highway 27 at 100th Avenue in South Harbor Township, when it struck the backhoe, a John Deere 310sl HL.

ONAMIA — The drivers of a van and a backhoe tractor with a loader were both hospitalized Thursday, Sept. 23, when the two collided northeast of Onamia in Mille Lacs County.

The Minnesota State Patrol was called at 8:44 a.m. to a report of a Chrysler Town and Country van that entered a work zone on Highway 27 at 100th Avenue in South Harbor Township and collided with the backhoe, a John Deere 310sl HL.

The driver of the van, Ralph C. Hayden, 85, of Onamia, and the driver of the backhoe, Austin R. Greeley, 26, Milaca, were both transported by Mille Lacs Ambulance to Mille Lacs Health System in Onamia for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office assisted the state patrol at the scene.
