Crow Wing County Victim Services Thursday announced its direct services and support for crime victims program received a $50,000 grant from the Otto Bremer Trust.
The grant allows Victim Services to provide victims of crime assistance and services as they recover from a criminal act, and to support and guide them as the offender moves through the criminal justice process.
Victim Services is a local nonprofit which provides over 2,000 services to crime victims annually, including support services, court related services, financial services and education. Victim Services is the only 'general crime' victims program available in Crow Wing County. General crime includes burglary, assault, arson, theft, property crimes, harassment, kidnapping, stalking, domestic violence, protection order violations, internet crimes and murder.
"Being a victim of a crime can result in physical, emotional, and financial injuries that leave lasting scars," said Kathy Fleisher, executive director, in a news release. "We take a victim-led approach to the services that are appropriate for each crime victim we assist. These services are driven by the needs of individuals impacted by crime and violence. We are committed to have a positive impact on their life and encourage a feeling of empowerment as we guide them in their decision-making process."

Based in St. Paul, the Otto Bremer Trust invests in people, places and opportunities in the Upper Midwest. The trust is a private charitable trust, established in 1944 by founder Otto Bremer, a successful banker and community and business leader. The trust is the 92 percent owner of Bremer Bank and also manages a diversified investment portfolio. The returns on these holdings provide the funding for the Otto Bremer Trust's grantmaking, which supports regional and local resources that benefit the communities that are home to Bremer banks.
