Volunteers are needed to help older adults and low- to middle-income individuals prepare their 2020 tax returns.
Volunteers receive free tax training materials from the Internal Revenue Service and the state of Minnesota. In return, certified volunteers are asked to volunteer at least four hours of their time each week during the 10-week period between Feb. 1 to April 15. Depending upon skill level, first-year volunteers are partnered with seasoned volunteer tax preparers to answer questions and assist in the preparation of tax returns. Individuals of all ages, backgrounds and skill levels are encouraged to volunteer.
Volunteers are also needed to work as greeters and client facilitators at the various tax preparation sites. The classroom training class will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Jan. 4-7 at Central Lakes College. Additional training will be provided for those who need it the following week. Preparation of returns at the various sites will begin Feb. 1. Course materials will be provided. All dates are tentative, subject to COVID-19.
