Minnesota Agriculture in the Classroom and its foundation announced the recipients of this year's agricultural literacy grants.

Among those honored is Jana Timm, active in the Beekeeping Project for the Freshwater Education District in Wadena.

Grants of up to $1,000 were awarded to one 4-H program, one children's museum and 12 teachers to encourage them to make agriculture and food systems education part of school curricula.

Projects will utilize funds in a variety of ways and support agricultural literacy for students ranging from kindergarten through high school. Teacher Stephanie McCleery of St. Paul's Central High School plans to take her AP Human Geography students on a full day farm tour field trip during a Food and Agriculture unit.
