Moving to a bigger school can be a challenge and Tara, who is in fifth grade, made that change this year.

She is doing fabulously, but in part because of a special lady named Maggie.

Last year, when Tara was still in grade school, one of her teachers made a connection with her in a special way. It was Maggie. She started thinking a lot about Tara and decided she wanted to be a support for her after she moved on to middle school.

What Maggie didn't know was that Tara was enrolled and waiting for a Kinship Mentor. Tara was dreaming of spending time with a funny, kind woman who would like reading, drawing and baking.

Well, Maggie called the Kinship office and requested a girl she knew at school be her Kinship Partner.

Low and behold, it was Tara, and she was already enrolled and waiting for someone just like her. Can you guess what Maggie enjoys doing? Of course, she likes reading, drawing, and baking, but most of all she likes being with Tara.

With offices in Brainerd, Pequot Lakes, Crosby and Staples; Kinship Partners serves area families by providing positive role models to youths from the ages of 5 to 14. Mentors may be individuals, couples or families.
